Your thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland in your neck, just above your collarbone. It is one of your endocrine glands, which make hormones. 

Thyroid hormones control the rate of many activities in your body. These include how fast you burn calories and how fast your heartbeats. All of these activities are your body's metabolism.

There are specific kinds of thyroid disorders that include:

·         Goiter - enlargement of the thyroid gland

·         Hyperthyroidism - when your thyroid gland makes more         


           thyroid  hormones than your body needs


·         Hypothyroidism - when your thyroid gland does not make    


           enough thyroid hormones


·         Thyroid cancer


·         Thyroid nodules - lumps in the thyroid gland


·         Thyroiditis - swelling of the thyroid 



Hypothyroidism

Hypothyroidism results from the thyroid gland producing an insufficient amount of thyroid hormone.

 Symptoms of hypothyroidism can include:

  • Fatigue
  • Poor concentration 
  • Dry skin
  • Constipation
  • Feeling cold
  • Fluid retention
  • Muscle and joint aches
  • Depression
  • Prolonged or excessive menstrual bleeding in women

Hyperthyroidism

Hyperthyroidism describes excessive production of thyroid hormone.

 Symptoms and signs of hyperthyroidism  include:

  • Nervousness
  • Fast heart rate
  • Fatigue
  • Intolerance for heat
  • Increase in bowel movements
  • Increased sweating
  • Concentration problems
  • Unintentional weight loss
  • Tremor

WHAT TO EAT:-

  1. Include IODINE in your diet.
  2. Eat the whole egg.
  3. Eat fish.
  4. Should use Olive oil, Coconut oil avoid refined oils.
  5. Should include Badam, Cashew-nuts, Melon seeds, Walnuts in your daily diet.
  6. GINGER TEA :(Boil water and add crushed ginger, let it boil for 5 minutes).
  7. FLAX SEEDS: It repairs the hormonal imbalance.Flaxseed powder mix in 1 glass of lukewarm water and drink. (How to consume flax seeds is mentioned in the link)
  8. ALOE VERA: Best to eat fresh aloe Vera gel(cut one leaf and clean in fresh water and eat the white pulp with the help of a spoon. it is easy to eat as it doesn't have any taste) or take aloe Vera ready-made juice  15 ml mix with water and drink early in the morning.
  9. Include VITAMIN A in your diet.
  10. All seasonal fruits are good to include in your diet.
  11. MULETHI (LICORICE ROOT) It reduces the side effects caused due to thyroid in the liver, digestive system & controls cholesterol levels.
  12. WHEATGRASS: It is a natural liver cleanser, helps in controlling diabetes. 
  13. CORIANDER LEAVES ( DHANIYA PATTI) Take a bunch of cleaned coriander leaves and make a fine paste. Mix 2 to 3 tsp of this paste in a glass of Luke warm water and drink.
  14. ASHWAGANDHA: Take 1 L of water in a pan and add 50 gm of ashwagandha powder and boil it till the water reduces to 750 ml. This mixture can be preserved in the refrigerator in a glass bottle. Mix 50 ml of this mixture in a glass of water. It acts as a modulator.
  15. Do pranayam daily specially UJJAYI pranayam.

WHAT ONE SHOULD NOT EAT:-

  1. Stop eating PACKED & PROCESSED FOOD.
  2. CABBAGE, CAULIFLOWER, TURNIP, SOYBEAN (and its products like tofu, soya milk)
  3. One should avoid CHOCOLATE TEA, COFFEE & COLD DRINKS.
  4. BAJARA (pearl millet) and PEANUTS should be avoided
  5. Stop ALCOHOL.
  6. Stop REFINED OIL and start using pure coconut oil or olive oil.
